Against Me! - Reinventing Axl Rose.
Everyone would leave with the memory that there was no place else in the world
And this was where they always belonged
We would dance like no one was watching
With one fist in the air
Our arena just basements and bookstores across an underground America
One day while I was still in High School I walked through the doors of Curmudgeon Music. The store was still located in Hillsborough, NJ at the time, and it was the first indie records store I ever frequented. I bought this album, and a Minor Threat “Bottled Violence” t-shirt. There are a select few albums that I specifically remember the moment I purchased them and this is one of them(the others are Dorkrockcorkrod by the Ergs! and No Matter Where We Go by Latterman). Going to Curmudgeon completely changed who I am and if it wasn’t for them I would be listening to dubwave or whatever the latest trend is in popular music. I literally don’t pay attention to popular music! People will constantly mention a band or a song and I have no idea what they are talking about because I am literally oblivious to music that is on the radio. I’m not even trying to sound super underground right now. It’s just how I am.
I don’t even remember the last time I bought music that wasn’t from either an indie store or the band themselves.
I had that Minor Threat shirt throughout the rest of High School and sometime afterward. When I moved out of my house in Bridgewater I went through my clothes and got rid of whatever didn’t fit any more. I found the shirt and decided to chuck it. It oddly felt like throwing away part of my life. I wish I hadn’t done that.
Curmudgeon Records closed in the Spring of 2011.
