2NE1- Can’t Nobody

This one is a happy go-lucky K-Pop song.

Now you might ask. Who the hell even listens to K-Pop? What is a K-Pop? Why is a K-Pop?

I don’t have a good answer. All I know is I was brought up on trashy Asian techno, and through years of DDR-ing and other such Asian musical pursuits, I’ve been conditioned to automatically like music coming out of the East. There’s a certain unironic sincerity in K-Pop in that they appropriate American style lyrics and ideas, but put on this traditionalist spin on it. 

My friend Tawny says that there isn’t very much gay culture in Korea. I mean I didn’t see a LOT of gays when I was in Seoul, but to be honest I was there for a Starcraft tournament I didn’t see much of anything anyways. I mean I only started taking K-Pop seriously this summer after she played me a few tracks, but for the longest time I listened to a ton of music coming out of Japan. 

Before you ask, I am no weeaboo. I grew up watching Dragonball and Gundam and Macross. Unlike SOME people I have at least a tenuous link to that side of the world. I may not be a slanty eyed Asian, but I’m AzN and proud of it. Proud enough that in middle school, my AIM screenname was xxSeXXyAzNbOi6969xx.
