bomb the music industry! - even winning feels bad

oh hey, i’m pilot and i’m forcing my bad music taste on you for the month of august. i think i’ll always associate bomb the music industry! with being nineteen/twenty, especially the summer before my junior year, when get warmer was released. i was living in a house with friends, taking easy classes, riding my bike, working a job (!) that paid me to nap and pay whiffle ball, getting hammered, going to shows, and generally being a little reckless while getting away with way too much ridiculous shit.

this song has been stuck in my head for a few days, mostly because of the last line: i’m not feeling very young these days. it’s weird how old i feel because there isn’t a big difference between the ages of nineteen and twenty-one, but there’s a huge difference between that summer and my current summer where i’m an unemployed college graduate with two useless degrees and a slight drinking problem. it happens.

regardless, whenever i listen to BtMI!, i immediately feel young and stupid again. i saw them on thursday, for the millionth time, and it was the happiest i’d been since may. that’s probably why i love them so much, because i’ve never been to a BtMI! show where i didn’t have an insane amount of fun and a story to tell, ranging from the first time i saw them (after getting kicked out of an against me! show before even getting in because i was underage and chugging a 40 on the curb) to the last time (getting my lip busted by jeff’s guitar and screaming “holland, 1945” into the mic) and everything in between: sharing beer with rosenstock, having them dedicate songs to me, making out with strangers, throwing up on the subway, etc. they’re definitely in my top five favorite bands ever and i’m going to apologize in advance if i end posting them a lot this month.
