RX Bandits - Infection
This is the first time that I’ve ever told the truth before
Scrutinize what they call faith
Hi! I’m Elyse, and I’m manning Songjournal for the month of June. My taste in music is a little different and a little more “mainstream” than most of the songs you’ve heard here over the past year, but I hope that won’t deter you from listening to what I have to play.
The RX Bandits are one of those bands that seem to have a huge cult following. My freshman year of college, they played a free show on campus with a bunch of forgettable ska bands and I was enamored from the get-go. My best friend recommended I pick up a copy of their album Progress (this was long before I decided that downloading music was okay) and this, the final track, kept me intrigued. I would go on to listen to it on repeat for hours after a particularly nasty break-up and found that I empathized with the lyrics. In essence, this song defined 2005 for me…and I’m not so sure I want to relive it. It’s bitter, it’s raw, and it’s beautiful.
